What data is sent to Google Gemini?
When you choose to scan an outfit, the photo you capture or import is sent securely to Google Gemini for AI analysis. Google Gemini processes the image to identify fabric type, color palette, silhouette, and aesthetic signals — and returns the results to Aura. No other personal information (such as your name, email, or account details) is sent alongside the image.
Your in-app consent
Before your very first scan, Aura displays a consent prompt that reads:
If you tap "I Agree", your preference is saved and Aura will proceed with scanning. If you tap "Cancel", no image is transmitted and the scan will not proceed. You will not be prompted again on subsequent scans, but you may withdraw your consent at any time — see Section 07 (Your Rights & Choices).
Google Gemini's data practices
Google LLC processes images sent to Gemini under its own terms and privacy policies. By using Aura's scanning features and consenting to this transmission, you acknowledge that Google's data practices also apply to those images. We strongly encourage you to review:
Google does not use images sent via the Gemini API to train its general AI models unless you separately opt in to Google's own programs. Images are processed only to generate the response returned to Aura and are not retained by Google beyond the processing window, in accordance with Google's API data usage policies.
When you scan an outfit and have given your consent (see Section 03), the image is securely transmitted to Google Gemini (a third-party AI service by Google LLC) via Aura's backend infrastructure. Google Gemini processes the image to detect fabric type, colour palette, silhouette, and aesthetic signals, and returns the analysis to Aura. The image is not stored on Google's servers beyond the processing window.
Once analysis is complete, the resulting Aura Score, aesthetic label, color palette, and style insights are stored on Aura's secure servers and associated with your account. Unsaved scan images are removed from Aura's servers within 24 hours of processing.
Saved scans are stored securely and associated with your account. You may delete any or all saved scans at any time from within the app.
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only in the following limited circumstances:
We retain your account information and wardrobe data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymise your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it by law.
Unsaved scan images are deleted from Aura's servers within 24 hours of processing. Images sent to Google Gemini for analysis are not retained by Google beyond the processing window, per Google's API data usage policies.

We take the security of your data seriously. Aura uses industry-standard measures including TLS encryption in transit, AES-256 encryption at rest, and access controls to protect your information. All transmissions to Google Gemini are made over HTTPS.
No system is completely secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, please contact us immediately at security@aura.app.
Aura is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or 16 in certain jurisdictions). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe we have inadvertently collected data from a child, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
